Prelude:
The city’s clans have fallen into disarray. LeCroix and his family’s grip on New Orleans has been broken. The Toredor clan seeing the advantage of breaking tehir uneasy alliance with them assisted in the change of power. The Brujah too saw an advantage of wriggling out from under the thumb of the Lecroix family. Or so it was thought. When the actual fighting took place, the culmination of this war, the Brujah betrayed the new coven, betrayed Odette, one of their own.
Regardless of their betrayal the De Bellisle family was victorious taking New Orleans as their own and the close surrounding parishes. Discussion to remove the Brujah clan entirely from the city was had, but in a moment of compassion Odette offered to approach them. To offer an olive branch to them to allow them one more chance to side with The Family. . .
Walking through the old club black army style boots kicking an empty beer bottle Odette looks around at the empty room. Approaching the bar, she looks over and notes that none of the alcohol bottles have any liquid in them, the beer taps are gone. “They left” Odette muttered to herself, however as if listening her shadow on the wall nods its head in acknowledgement. Clearly frustrated she turned on her heel and strode towards the door. As she moved her toes kicked an old switch blade knife. Stopping and watching it skitter across the debris strewn floor she idly chewed upon the ring pierced through her lip.
“I wonder..” musing aloud she places a hand on the knife and closed her eyes tight. At first there is no sensation, but soon a scene begins to show in her minds eye. People carrying out chairs, beer kegs and such. The scene of the move. As she concentrated more she could hear them in her mind. The various conversations the jibes the Brujah and their human thralls made at each other.
“Chinga tu puta!” snapped a man with a shaved head with tattoos upon his smooth pate to a scrawny man in a torn t shirt who had said something rather offensive to the other. The man with the shaved head glares at the scrawny individual. “I will tear out your throat you fucker!” He growls, as he speaks Odette can see the fangs in his mouth showing him as one of the actual Brujah. The scrawny man pulls the switchblade in defense but her never saw the Brujah. In a blur of motion he move to the man, knocking the knife away and bites into the mans throat. Dropping the body the vampire snaps to all the others “Rapido assholes! We are supposed to be down at the waterfront by the end of tonight. We need to be outta here before they find us. Now Move It!!”
Releasing the knife, Odette stood up and smiled the tips of her own fangs peeing past her pierced lip. Without another look around the place she stalked out onto the night time street and in to her matte black Maserati GranTurismo. Pulling out into the road she made her way towards the waterfront. Parking well away from any buildings Odette made her way closer keeping to the shadows though the silhouette of her tall wild pink mohawk kept her from being inconspicuous. As she moved towards warehouses and small business fronts the sound of a groan catches her ears. A man staggered out of the shadows. “Wha are you?” He asked loudly. With a hiss Odette turned upon him and pressed him against a wall. Without hesitation her fangs pierce the drunkards flesh and without stopping she drained him knowing the strength she was going to need very soon. Once she finished she dropped the body unceremoniously and stalked out back to the street eyes closed her senses quite heightened. As she drew nearer to an old bar she could hear familiar voices and the scent of blood and cheap booze. A smile crept wide over her lips as she moved to the shadows cast by an overhead street light. “It’s time I took the kid gloves off” She purred to herself right before she crossed her arms over her chest. AS if sinking instantly she dropped into the shadow.
“So the LeCroix are dead? It gives us the chance to carve a true piece of this city out for ourselves!” Argues the vampire Odette saw in her vision. Speaking to the group gathered around him “And Acid Lily wasn’t careful. She shouldn’t have been so overt so soon. She gave those bastardos a chance to move against her! We have to be a bit more patient. If we are they can not beat us. They don’t have the numbers!” Some of the vampires and humans call out in agreement others say nothing or very little showing some uncertainty.
Suddenly stepping out of the shadow of the jukebok that lies on the wall Odette sauntered out a smile on her lips. “Oh you could beg forgiveness and side with us. I have agreed my Family to show some mercy” Her sudden appearance out of the wall takes many off guard, human and vampire alike. Some even cross themselves in Catholic fashion.
The vampire with the shaved head whips around and sneers. “Puta! You’re not welcome here! Some one drop this bitch!” He orders instantly. Several humans and move to pull firearms out they are carrying but before a shot gets fired tendrils of darkness whip out and grasp wrists, guns and even necks lifting helpless humans off their feet. Arms are broken and some are choked. Many of the Brujah who made no move in order to watch all gasp some mutter the phase “La Sombra!” Odette smiled at the words as she let the broken and dead humans fall uselessly to the ground
“No? You don’t wish to join me? I could give you so much!! What did LeCroix ever give you? All you were to him were mindless muscle. I know better than that. I know you deserve the same level of respect the Ventrue and Toredor get. I know what Brujah can be if they are smart.”
“We don’t need anything from you or Tu Familia. You are not welcome here. You’re not wanted. You’ve been left weak after your little war. I think perhaps we should take everything from you!” Some of the vampires speak in agreement some remain silent.
Odette smiled her mind pressing into the Brujah’s mind so easily, no true guard against her. She pulled his name from his mind everything about him she would ever want to know. “Tell me Ernesto, do you know what an obilette is?” Odette asked as she moves smoothly around the room, looking to the others to see if any other dare stand against her.
With out looking surprised she knew his name he sneered at her again, “You’re talking crazy. Someone kill this Bit-” He never had the chance to finish his sentence as he stepped into a shadow and disappeared. The shadow upon the floor takes on the shape of Ernesto. Odette suddenly whirled around the room her fangs extended her eyes deep black “I WILL MAKE YOU ALL GO AWAY!! FOREVER!!!” She shrieked her singers voice piercing about the shocked cries and gasps of the others “IF ANY OF YOU WISH TO JOIN HIM MAKE YOUR MOVE!!!” Her cry continues as she whirls around hoping they buy her bluff. She could never trap more than one at a time in a shadow. It is impossible even for the oldest of vampires with the power of Obtenebration but they didn’t know that, only those that studied knew that. “Make. Your. Move.” Odette said as she looked about.
Some Brujah stepped back to watch others pulled weapons or charged her. Tendrils of night whipped out to lash at or prip or restrain those vampires or humans determined to stop her. Giving her time to close her eyes and make all the light vanish in the room. Moving out of the way easily able to see in the abyssal dark she watched the others stumble and reach for her. In wrath they tried to find her. She stalked them in the dark pouncing upon them tearing out throats in order to incapacitate or kill. However there were so many, and caused her to lose her concentration and the light returned, though Ernesto remained a shadow on the floor.
As the Brujah saw her many lunged, she had barely enough time to pull one final trick out of her sleeve. Suddenly Odette called shadows upon her her tall mohawk styled from suddenly was covered in shadows. The pink of her hair becoming a dull gray. The powerful blows the brujah landed upon her seemed to cause no damage to her. It was as if she felt nothing!
“ENOUGH!!” She cried and knocked many back. “I am alone here. I came here, alone!! And look how many are dead. Look at what has happened to your last two elders!” I point to the shadow of Ernesto. “I give you the chance to live, to thrive and grow strong. Under my guidance! No one else! Join me. Or die. The choice is yours” She stood there a shadowy form, an entity from the abyss itself. No one said a word, not until a woman stepped out from the back, her skin the color of alabaster her eyes pale clearly a vampire. She looked down at the shadow of Ernesto and spit upon it “I stand with La Sombra. I say we give her a chance. Other wise who wants to be that!?” She points to the shadow “I’m tired of the fighting. I’m tired of being seen as a brute!” Others begin to nod in agreement. Odette lets the shadows slither off her. Odette smiled. “Wise choice.” She said as she picks up a crippled but still living human that tried to attack her earlier and drinks freely from him. This sort of this was took such a toll on her but she could never look weak, not then.
She pointed to the bodies on the floor “Let’s get these cleaned up. “ Then she looked around “If you wish to stay here fine, otherwise we can find a more suitable place for us to meet to call home! I think it’s time we show the rest that we are not just the dregs of our society! Let them see Our glory!” The idea of showing other vampires we are not just rabble seemed to have struck a note with the others and the way they looked upon Odette changed.
The vampires and few remaining humans moved about the bar easier showing their acceptance of Odette however none dared to walk over the shadow of Ernesto forever left on the floor.
The city’s clans have fallen into disarray. LeCroix and his family’s grip on New Orleans has been broken.
